Traffic signs installed at counter-flow points in East Jakarta
Jakarta – The police continue to work to curb traffic violations, one of which is installing traffic signs at several points where violations are frequent, especially for drivers going against the flow in East Jakarta. “To minimise counter-flow violations, no-entry signs that already exist are being provided,” said AKP Eko Apriyanto, Head of Operations (KBO) Satlantas Polres Metro Jakarta Timur, at Jalan DI Panjaitan, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on Thursday. The Jakarta Timur Metro Police Traffic Unit (Satlantas) partnered with the Department of Transportation (Dishub) to install prohibition signs at locations deemed prone to violations. This step is taken as a preventive measure as well as a warning to road users to obey traffic rules. “We are coordinating with the Department of Transportation regarding the signs, such as the prohibitions that are already in front of the Jatinegara sub-district office,” he said. These signs are intended to reinforce that a road must not be traversed from that direction; it is one-way. “These signs are installed clearly so drivers understand that along this road it is one-way,” he said. In addition, Eko explained, the signs were installed to prevent drivers from going against the flow that had previously been frequent in the area. “The presence of the signs is expected to clarify the rules for road users,” he said. In addition to signage, officers will continue to take action against traffic violators who stubbornly go against the flow. In its implementation, Satlantas Polres Metro Jakarta Timur (Jaktim) also partnered with several related agencies to help monitor on the ground. “We are cooperating with related agencies, namely Dishub and Satpol PP who assist us on the ground,” said Eko. According to Eko, on Jalan DI Panjaitan that leads toward Kalimalang, two-wheeled riders continue to violate rules by going against the flow. Therefore, they urged all road users to comply with the traffic signs installed and not take shortcuts by driving against the flow. “We urge both two-wheeled and four-wheeled riders to stay safe and not go against the flow, as this could endanger themselves and other road users,” he said. Based on monitoring on Jalan DI Panjaitan, traffic on that route has been congested since 07:00 WIB up to now, especially during the morning and evening peak hours. Amid the congestion, several motorcyclists and even cars were seen brazenly taking the opposite lane. They exploited gaps between vehicles to pass, even as vehicles from the opposite direction continued to arrive. Police officers on duty continued to take action against drivers who still stubbornly go against the flow.
