Traffic policeman questioned
JAKARTA (JP): City Military Police are investigating claims
that a traffic police officer fatally shot a boy, Arianto
Aritonang, City Police spokesman Lt. Col. Bambang Haryoko said.
Bambang told reporters on Wednesday that if the City Military
Police could prove that the officer, identified only as Sergeant
W., had killed the boy (age withheld), police would not hesitate
to punish him, Antara reported.
The shooting occurred on Sunday night, Feb. 5, when the boy
was playing with firecrackers on the roof of his house. Allegedly
disturbed by the sound of the firecrackers, Sargeant W.
reprimanded Arianto several times, telling him to stop igniting
the firecrackers. But the boy simply ignored him.
Losing his patience, the sargeant reportedly unsheathed his
pistol and shot the boy in the head. (mas)
