Traffic Police Prepare Contraflow Measures if Jakarta–Cikampek Exodus Traffic Becomes Congested
The Indonesian National Police’s Traffic Corps (Korlantas) is preparing traffic management scenarios including contraflow measures to anticipate increased vehicle flow leaving Jakarta towards Cikampek during the 2026 Lebaran exodus. Deputy Police Chief Komjen Pol Dedi Prasetyo announced this whilst inspecting the Korlantas Command Centre in Cikampek, Bekasi, on Saturday, 14 March 2026.
The Deputy Police Chief and his team monitored the exodus traffic through aerial patrols from Jakarta to the KM 29 area of the Jakarta–Cikampek toll road. Monitoring results showed vehicle volume began increasing on the second day of Operation Ketupat 2026. However, traffic flow remained smooth.
“Overall, I observe from the air that traffic flow leaving Jakarta is running very smoothly. Although there has been an increase, it remains in the very smooth category,” Dedi stated.
According to him, readiness for controlling vehicle flow is supported by the Command Centre of Operation Ketupat. This facility helps officers monitor traffic conditions in various areas in real time.
The command post integrates data analysis and field situation reports, making it easier to make decisions regarding traffic management. “In addition to monitoring from the air, we also observe the readiness of the Operation Ketupat 2026 Task Force command centre. Results of analysis and evaluation from the first to the second day show the security and public order situation in very conducive conditions,” Dedi said.
He explained that contraflow scenarios have been prepared to anticipate potential vehicle congestion heading towards Cikampek. The traffic management measures are not implemented abruptly as all decisions are based on data analysis from the command centre.
“This contraflow is prepared and anticipated three hours before the discretionary measure is implemented,” Dedi stated.
Korlantas has also prepared further measures if vehicle volume increases significantly at night. Should the number of vehicles passing through the Cikampek toll road exceed a certain threshold, larger-scale traffic management measures will be implemented.
“When traffic flow through Cikampek exceeds 6,000 vehicles per hour, one-way traffic management and other arrangements will be implemented,” Dedi said.
