Traffic Police Implement One-Way Segment on Trans Java Toll Road
Karawang — Indonesia’s Traffic Police Commander (Kakorlantas Polri) Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho reported significant traffic congestion on the Trans Java toll road between kilometres 29 and 70 on Tuesday, 17 March 2026. The police force is accelerating intervention measures through a phased traffic management scheme.
Traffic Police have prepared a one-way segment scheme for the first phase covering kilometres 70 to 263 in Central Java. This step was taken following coordination with the Ministry of Transport and toll road operators to respond to surging vehicle numbers from the Jakarta direction.
“We report that the current traffic situation from kilometre 29 to kilometre 70 is quite congested. Therefore, together with stakeholders, we will conduct socialisation of the one-way segment scheme in the first phase from kilometre 70 to kilometre 263,” said Agus via message to media at Cikampek, Karawang Regency, West Java, on Tuesday.
He explained that the initial phase focuses on public awareness campaigns for road users. Field personnel will inform travellers of the traffic management plan whilst directing vehicle flow to ensure orderly adjustment.
Following the socialisation phase, Agus continued, Traffic Police will proceed with sterilisation of the routes to be used for the one-way scheme. This process includes clearing the routes of obstacles and ensuring infrastructure and personnel readiness.
“After socialisation, we carry out sterilisation and checking of route readiness. The hope is that this traffic management measure can facilitate vehicle flow from Jakarta towards Central and East Java,” said Agus.
The traffic management scheme is aimed at resolving congestion on the initial Trans Java toll segment, which serves as a convergence point for vehicle flows from the Greater Jakarta region. According to Agus, increased vehicle volumes during the annual exodus period necessitated acceleration of the phased scheme implementation.
Traffic Police are targeting smooth vehicle movement towards Central and East Java through this intervention. The regulation is being conducted in a measured manner to ensure more even distribution of vehicles along the entire Trans Java toll road.
