Traffic Police Directorate Investigates Cause of Fatal Accident in Indramayu
Jakarta, VIVA – The Traffic Law Enforcement Directorate (Ditgakkum) of the National Police Traffic Corps has moved swiftly to provide assistance in handling a traffic accident that occurred on the Pantura road, specifically in Kiajaran Kulon Village, Lohbener District, Indramayu Regency, West Java, on Monday, 13 July 2026.
The accident, which involved 18 people, resulted in 12 deaths.
Upon the direction of the Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, Commissioner General Wibowo, the Director of Traffic Law Enforcement, Brigadier General I Made Agus Prasatya, immediately deployed an assistance team to the scene.
The team was led by the Head of the Accident Sub-Directorate of Ditgakkum, Commissioner Mariochristy PS Siregar, with field operations led by the Head of the Accident Analysis Section, AKBP Sandhi Widyanoe.
The assistance was carried out together with the West Java Regional Police’s Law Enforcement Directorate, the Indramayu District Traffic Unit, the National Police Traffic Accident Analysis (TAA) Team, and involved the West Java Provincial Transportation and Public Works and Housing Agencies.
In an initial meeting with the Indramayu District Police, the team examined the results of the crime scene investigation, witness statements, and evidence.
Based on preliminary results, no braking traces were found from the two Hino lorries involved before they struck a Daihatsu Grand Max that had stopped to make a U-turn.
Investigators have also questioned the lorry drivers, but the examination process is still taking into account their psychological condition, as they remain traumatised.
In addition, the team obtained video footage circulating on social media to support the analysis of vehicle speeds prior to the accident. Meanwhile, CCTV examinations around the location have not yet found any cameras pointing directly at the scene.
To strengthen the evidence scientifically, Ditgakkum of the National Police Traffic Corps, together with the TAA Team, conducted a crime scene examination using 3D Laser Scanner technology. The examination found a difference of approximately 10 centimetres in road surface elevation between lane A and lane B. No traffic signs or U-turn indicators were found at the location.
The team also identified that the turning point used was not an official U-turn, but rather an access point opened unofficially by local residents. According to the West Java Provincial Transportation Agency, the distance between official U-turns along that road section is approximately 800 metres.
