Traffic Police Commit to Preventing Extortion Through Transparent Services
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The head of the National Police Traffic Corps, Brigadier General Aries Syahbudin, has reaffirmed the traffic police’s commitment to preventing illegal levies through transparent services.
In a statement received in Jakarta on Friday, Aries said there must be no tolerance for abuse of authority in police duties or public services. Any suspected violation, he said, must be followed up seriously, objectively and in accordance with the applicable procedures.
He added that personnel found to have solicited illegal payments must face firm action, including removal from their duties or positions on the same day, in line with the regulations.
All public complaints must be handled professionally, transparently and accountably, in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Alongside disciplinary enforcement, Aries instructed traffic police units to step up morning traffic management at congestion-prone locations, junctions, school areas and main roads. Officers on the ground must be able to anticipate congestion, prevent potential accidents and provide courteous, responsive services to road users.
For services involving driving licences (SIM), police clearance certificates (SKCK) and traffic enforcement, units were told to make all requirements, procedures and official fees clear to the public. Supervision at service counters must be strengthened, brokers prevented from operating, and all payments made through official channels with valid receipts.
The head of the Traffic Corps also stressed the importance of regular supervision and evaluation. Regional police traffic directors and district traffic police chiefs were asked to ensure duties are carried out in line with SOPs, monitor officers’ attendance and service quality, and document activities, challenges and follow-up actions for evaluation.
Through this “Commander’s Wish” directive, traffic police units are expected to improve their integrity, discipline and the quality of their services to the public.
The directive is in line with the “Police with the Community” tagline promoted by National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto, reflecting a commitment to strengthening the police presence among the public and delivering clean, professional and humane public services free from illegal levies.
