Traffic Police Chief Urges Transport Operators and Drivers to Ensure Safety During Eid Homecoming
The head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Agus Suryonugroho has called on public transport operators and drivers to ensure the safety of travellers during the 2026 Eid homecoming period.
This forms part of efforts to achieve security, safety, order and smooth traffic flow (Kamseltibcarlantas) during the upcoming homecoming season.
“We have instructed the Directorate of Safety ranks from the central to regional level to earnestly educate public transport owners and drivers so they commit to implementing Kamseltibcarlantas. Vehicles must be safe and drivers must also be safe,” Agus said in a statement on Wednesday (19 February).
In connection with this, the Traffic Corps’ Directorate of Safety has conducted educational outreach to operators and drivers. As a result, public transport operators have declared their readiness to carry out comprehensive fleet inspections before operating during the Eid transport period.
They have also ensured that every vehicle is in roadworthy condition, has passed the KIR roadworthiness test, has optimal braking systems, and meets all administrative requirements.
Meanwhile, drivers have also expressed their readiness to maintain physical and mental fitness, observe rest periods, avoid driving whilst fatigued, and comply with traffic regulations.
Agus stated that pre-emptive and preventive approaches are the top priority in addressing the surge in public mobility during Eid.
He said that synergy between regulators, law enforcement, operators and drivers is the key to reducing traffic accident figures.
“Eid is a moment of happiness. Safety must be a shared priority. We want the public to travel home safely, arrive at their destinations safely, and return safely,” he said.
The theme for this year’s homecoming is ‘Safe Homecoming, Sharing Hope’. Agus expressed hope that genuine commitment from business operators and drivers would ensure the Eid homecoming period proceeds safely and smoothly.
“The Traffic Corps is optimistic that the management of traffic security for Eid 2026 will be better, more humane, and oriented towards prevention, in line with the spirit of Precision Policing in protecting and serving the public,” he concluded.
