Traffic on Kelok 44 Maninjau Route Monitored as Smooth Despite Three Severely Damaged Points
Agam (ANTARA) - Traffic flow in the Kelok 44 area, which connects Maninjau in Agam Regency to Bukittinggi City in West Sumatra, is monitored as smooth, despite three points with severe damage due to the hydrometeorological disaster in November 2025.
Based on ANTARA’s observation on Saturday afternoon, two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles can still pass without significant obstacles. Nevertheless, drivers are seen slowing down when entering vulnerable points.
At least three road subsidence points and two landslide points are recorded along the route. This condition is a continuation of the hydrometeorological disaster that occurred last November, which has not been fully repaired.
Based on ANTARA’s records, the subsidence points in the area are at kelok 11, kelok 31, and kelok 43 leading to kelok 44, which is a subsidence point with a high severity level, causing the road surface to be left with only half its width.
Meanwhile, landslide material in the form of reddish soil is visible on several sides of the road, indicating that these road points are highly vulnerable to follow-up landslides if rain occurs.
Landslide material from kelok 10 appears to have left remnants on the right side of kelok 9 from the direction of Maninjau and kelok 8. The landslide points are at kelok 42 and 43, with traces of landslides on the left and right sides of the road.
The Head of the Communication and Informatics Office of Agam Regency, Roza Syafdefianti, stated that several sections of the main route connecting Maninjau-Bukittinggi have experienced quite severe damage due to flash floods and landslides that occurred at the end of last November.
“We ask for extra caution, reduce speed, and prioritise vigilance when passing through,” said Roza, as quoted from the Agam Diskominfo social media page.
The Agam Regency government, she continued, remains committed to handling and repairing infrastructure for collective safety.
“We ask for patience from the people of Agam and road users. Hopefully, through R3P (Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Plan), repairs can be carried out quickly,” added Roza.
