Traffic Jam in Front of DPR Building Due to Demonstration, Only One Lane Opened

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Traffic flow on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Senayan, Central Jakarta, began to jam on Thursday (16/4/2026) afternoon. Kompas.com observations at the location showed that the crowd from the Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KSPI) action had already filled the area in front of the DPR RI building gate since 11.30 WIB. Then, the line of protesters was expanded around 11.50 WIB, closing part of the road body. This condition caused traffic to be congested from the Semanggi direction towards Slipi. Police and several protesters from the Metal Guard of the Indonesian Metal Workers’ Union Federation were seen regulating traffic by directing vehicles to the far right lane. Meanwhile, after passing the area in front of the DPR gate to the Slipi flyover, traffic flow returned to normal. Traffic flow inside the city toll road was also monitored to be smooth without obstacles. The public intending to pass from the Semanggi direction to Grogol, West Jakarta, is advised to seek alternative routes to avoid getting stuck in the congestion. “This is a pre-May Day action to remind the government and people’s representatives that the workers’ class struggle is not over and we will never stay silent,” said KSPI President and Labour Party President, Said Iqbal, in a written statement on Thursday. Said estimated that around 3,000 to 5,000 workers would attend in waves to voice their aspirations today. “Today’s action will take place peacefully, orderly, and fully within the legal corridor.
