Traffic in Cawang, East Jakarta, Returns to Normal After Protest Near UKI Causes Gridlock
Traffic in Cawang, East Jakarta, was temporarily gridlocked due to a demonstration near the Indonesian Christian University (UKI). The protest has since concluded and traffic conditions have returned to normal. The congestion caused by the protest near UKI on Jalan Mayjen Sutoyo occurred this afternoon. The traffic jam in Cawang was confirmed by the Head of Public Relations for the East Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Made Budi. “That is correct,” AKP Made told reporters on Tuesday (21/7/2026). Meanwhile, the Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Management Centre reported that the protesters had dispersed by 6:43 PM Western Indonesian Time. Traffic in the surrounding area gradually returned to normal once the demonstration ended. “The expression of opinion activity under the UKI pedestrian bridge in East Jakarta on Jalan Mayjen Sutoyo heading towards PGC has now dispersed, and traffic is back to normal,” wrote the Polda Metro Jaya TMC on its X account. Based on photos uploaded by the Polda Metro Jaya TMC, a number of police officers were seen guarding the protest location and directing traffic as the crowd dispersed.
