Traffic fatality rate in West Java drops 91 per cent during Operation Ketupat 2026
Jakarta — The head of the Traffic Police (Kakorlantas) of the Indonesian National Police (Polri), Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, reported that the traffic fatality rate in West Java declined by 91 per cent through the third day of Operation Ketupat 2026 compared to the same period during Operation Ketupat 2025.
The statement was made by Agus following an inspection of the integrated command post for Operation Ketupat at the West Java regional police headquarters at the KM 57 A rest area on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, West Java, on Sunday.
“The fatality indicator shows a decline from last year of 91 per cent. From last year where 26 people had died, now there is only one,” he said.
At the national level, he added, the fatality rate declined by approximately 45 per cent compared to the same period last year.
He also stated that current traffic conditions remain orderly and well controlled.
“We hope this is the beginning of Operation Ketupat’s success because all stakeholders and the state are present to ensure that the series of activities during the holy month of Ramadan, Idul Fitri, including the celebration of Nyepi and the associated hustle and bustle, Operation Ketupat can be managed,” he said.
The two-star general further stated that the peak of the homecoming exodus is estimated to occur on 17 and 18 March.
He noted that police have prepared traffic engineering measures including contraflow and one-way systems to anticipate vehicle congestion.
In the same context, the operations chief at the West Java regional police headquarters, Senior Commissioner La Ode Aries El Fathar, stated that the West Java regional police headquarters is prepared to secure activities and the implementation of Operation Ketupat 2026.
“Our management of security and public order maintenance (harkamtibmas) has been carried out prior to this operation, beginning with road safety operations to provide traffic safety education to the public,” he said.
This measure, he explained, is conducted to ensure that the public can conduct activities safely in West Java, whether they are passing through or arriving with the intention to depart and return from the West Java region.
