The Head of the Indonesian National Police’s Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, announced that traffic fatality figures have declined significantly during the early phases of Operation Ketupat 2026. The police are continuing efforts to guarantee public safety during the 2026 homecoming period and return journey.

“I report that fatalities from traffic accidents have decreased by 45%. The fatality rate has dropped 45%,” said Irjen Agus at the Korlantas Police Command Centre at Km 29 Cikarang, West Java, on Sunday (15 March 2026).

Irjen Agus stated that no notable criminal incidents have occurred thus far. Police personnel remain on heightened alert to maintain security during the 2026 homecoming season.

“To this point, there are no significant criminal incidents to report. Alhamdulillah, all personnel have been deployed, both at security posts and integrated checkpoints. So far we have been quite successful,” he said.

“Simply put, we are guaranteeing that the public departs for homecoming and travels safely to their destinations. So they can arrive at their destination and meet their families hopefully in happiness,” he added.

So far, approximately 25% of vehicles have already departed Jakarta towards various regions. The police continue to maintain readiness in anticipation of increased vehicle volume.

“However, on the tollways, so far roughly 25% have already left Jakarta, heading towards the Trans-Java route, Bandung, and Sumatra,” he explained.

Operation Ketupat 2026 is scheduled to run for two weeks, from 13 to 25 March 2026. The operation uses the tagline “Safe Homecoming, Happy Family”.
