Traffic Engineering Implemented at Cakung Junction to Prevent Severe Congestion
Traffic engineering measures have been implemented at the Cakung junction area to prevent severe congestion from recurring, following major gridlock caused by truck loading and unloading activities.
Kasudinhub East Jakarta, Harlem Simanjuntak, stated that vehicles heading towards Jalan Cacing (Cakung-Cilincing) are temporarily directed to proceed straight and make a U-turn in front of the Cakung Police Station to avoid bottlenecks at the intersection. He clarified that this traffic diversion applies only to large vehicles.
As of 07:00 WIB, traffic conditions on Jalan Raya Bekasi, specifically at the Cakung junction, were generally observed to be busy but flowing smoothly. However, the volume of vehicles heading towards Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing has begun to increase. Harlem noted that while there is a slowdown on Jalan Cakung-Cilincing due to queues entering the depots, other traffic flows remain moving. Officers from the transportation agency are on the ground continuously monitoring the situation and managing traffic flow situationally, with engineering adjustments to be made based on real-time developments to maintain public mobility.
Harlem urged motorists to follow the directions of officers and obey traffic signs to ensure safe travel and controlled vehicle flow during the morning rush hour. The severe congestion that previously occurred on the Bekasi Highway to Cakung-Cilincing Road was attributed by the East Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit to truck loading and unloading activities at several depots in the Cakung area, which reduced road capacity and caused traffic to stall, particularly during peak hours on this key logistics and commuter route.
