Traffic diverted for construction work

JAKARTA: The city transportation agency announced on Thursday that traffic was being diverted in the vicinity of the Cawang intersection, East Jakarta, to facilitate the construction of an underpass.

A release from the agency said that starting on Friday at 6 a.m., motorists traveling from Jl. M.T. Haryono in the direction of Jl. Kramat Jati or Cililitan must turn left and make a U-turn on Jl. D.I. Panjaitan in front of the Wika building instead of turning right onto Jl. Maj. Gen. Sutoyo.

Motorists traveling from Jl. Halim Perdanakusuma in the direction of Jl. M.T. Haryono must turn left and make a U-turn on Jl. Maj. Gen. Sutoyo in front of the BAKN building.

Those heading to Jl. M.T. Haryono from Jl. D.I. Panjaitan must go straight on to Jl. Maj. Gen. Sutoyo and turn left after the traffic circle.

North-bound traffic from Jl. Maj. Gen. Sutoyo can proceed straight ahead to Jl. D.I. Panjaitan.

The construction of the underpass in Cawang is expected to cause severe congestion at the already gridlocked intersection over the coming months. --JP
