Traffic Diversions Around Monas for 17 August Flag Procession
The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) has prepared traffic engineering measures for the 81st Indonesian Independence Day celebrations on 17 August 2026. Motorists are asked to avoid a number of roads around the National Monument (Monas) area in Central Jakarta. The traffic diversions are due to the procession for the delivery and return of the Heritage Flag and the Independence Day commemoration ceremony. The Heritage Flag procession will take place in two sessions. The delivery procession is scheduled for 07.30-09.30 WIB, while the return procession will take place from 17.45-18.30 WIB. “To support this activity, situational traffic engineering is implemented around the intended location,” stated the DKI Jakarta Dishub, as quoted from its official Instagram account, @dishubdkijakarta, on Friday (14/8/2026). The DKI Dishub noted that traffic diversions will be enforced from 07.30-11.30 WIB and 16.30-18.30 WIB. Six roads will be affected by the traffic engineering: 1. Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat 2. Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara 3. Jalan Veteran I 4. Jalan Veteran II 5. Jalan Veteran III 6. The east side of Jalan Majapahit, heading north to south. The DKI Dishub has also prepared a number of alternative routes for affected motorists. Motorists travelling from the north to the east or Tugu Tani can use Jalan Ir H Juanda-Jalan Lapangan Kesatrian-Jalan Lapangan Banteng Utara-Jalan Lapangan Banteng Barat-Jalan Taman Pejambon-Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur-Jalan M.I Ridwan Rais. Meanwhile, from Harmoni heading south or to Karet, motorists can use Jalan Ir H Juanda-Jalan Suryopranoto-Jalan Balikpapan-Jalan Cideng Timur-Jalan KH Mas Mansyur and so on. From the east heading north or to Harmoni, motorists from Tugu Tani can pass through Jalan M.I Ridwan Rais-Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur-Jalan Perwira-Jalan Lapangan Banteng Barat-Jalan Katedral-Jalan Ir H Juanda. As for those from Tugu Tani heading west or to Tanah Abang, they can go via Jalan M.I Ridwan Rais-Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan-Jalan Budi Kemuliaan and so on. For motorists travelling from the south to the north, vehicles from Bundaran HI heading to Harmoni can use Jalan MH Thamrin-Jalan Budi Kemuliaan-Jalan Abdul Muis-Jalan Majapahit. Meanwhile, from Karet to Harmoni, motorists can pass through Jalan KH Mas Mansyur-Jalan Cideng Barat-Jalan Balikpapan-Jalan Suryopranoto. The DKI Dishub urges the public to take note of these traffic diversions and plan their travel times during the series of 81st Indonesian Independence Day celebrations.
