Traffic diversion scenarios during 81st Indonesian Independence Day celebrations
The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub DKI Jakarta) has implemented situational traffic management on a number of roads to support the smooth running of the 81st Independence Day celebrations in Jakarta on Sunday (17/8).
Head of Dishub DKI Jakarta Budi Awaluddin said traffic flow arrangements were adjusted according to the stages of activities, from the Heritage Flag Procession, the Proclamation Seconds Commemoration Ceremony, the People’s Party, to the evening celebration and decorated vehicle carnival.
“We have prepared situational traffic management so that the entire series of 81st Independence Day celebrations can take place safely and in an orderly manner,” said Budi in his statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
Dishub DKI also deployed around 500 personnel to manage traffic and ensure public mobility during the series of activities.
Traffic management was implemented from 07.30-11.30 WIB and 16.30-18.30 WIB during the Heritage Flag Delivery Procession, the Proclamation Seconds Ceremony, the Red and White Flag Lowering Ceremony, and the Heritage Flag Return Procession.
A number of affected roads include Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, Jalan Veteran I, Jalan Veteran II, Jalan Veteran III, and the eastern side of Jalan Majapahit heading north to south.
Road users from Harmoni towards Tugu Tani can travel via Jalan Ir. H. Juanda, Jalan Pos, Jalan Gedung Kesenian, Jalan Lapangan Banteng Utara, Jalan Lapangan Banteng Barat, Jalan Taman Pejambon, Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur, to Jalan MI Ridwan Rais.
Meanwhile, from Harmoni towards Karet, motorists can use Jalan Ir. H. Juanda, Jalan Suryopranoto, Jalan Balikpapan, Jalan Cideng Timur, to Jalan KH Mas Mansyur.
Road users from Tugu Tani towards Harmoni can travel via Jalan MI Ridwan Rais, Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur, Jalan Perwira, Jalan Lapangan Banteng Barat, Jalan Katedral, and Jalan Ir. H. Juanda.
Meanwhile, travel from Tugu Tani towards Tanah Abang can be made via Jalan MI Ridwan Rais, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, to Jalan Budi Kemuliaan.
From the HI Roundabout towards Harmoni, motorists can travel via Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Budi Kemuliaan, Jalan Abdul Muis, and Jalan Majapahit.
Traffic management was also implemented situationally during the 81st Independence Day People’s Party, which took place from 08.00-23.00 WIB in the Monas area and its surroundings.
Alternative routes from Harmoni towards Tugu Tani and Karet essentially use the same routes as the arrangements during the procession and ceremony.
Meanwhile, from the HI Roundabout towards Harmoni, road users can travel via Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Kebon Sirih, Jalan H Fachrudin, Jalan Jati Baru Raya, Jalan Abdul Muis, and Jalan Majapahit.
Road users from Jalan Agus Salim towards Senen can travel via Jalan Kebon Sirih and Jalan Arief Rachman Hakim.
From Tanah Abang towards Tugu Tani, motorists can travel via Jalan Jati Baru Raya and Jalan Kebon Sirih, while towards Harmoni they can use Jalan Jati Baru Raya, Jalan Abdul Muis, and Jalan Majapahit.
In the evening, traffic management was implemented to support the 81st Independence Day Evening Celebration, which took place from 19.00-23.00 WIB and was enlivened by the Decorated Vehicle Carnival.
The decorated vehicle carnival started from Jalan Silang Merdeka Daya Barat-Monas, then moved along the eastern side of Jalan MH Thamrin, the HI Roundabout, the eastern side of Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, and ended at Jalan Galunggung-Taman Dukuh Atas Skatepark.
Traffic management was carried out situationally in the Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Monas areas, as well as a number of roads connecting the Tanah Abang, Menteng, Kebon Kacang, to Dukuh Atas areas.
Road users from Harmoni towards Kuningan can use Jalan Suryopranoto, Jalan Balikpapan, Jalan Cideng Timur, Jalan KH Mas Mansyur, to Jalan Prof. Dr. Satrio.
From Menteng towards Tanah Abang, motorists can travel via Jalan Imam Bonjol, Jalan H Agus Salim, Jalan KH Wahid Hasyim, and Jalan KH Mas Mansyur.
Meanwhile, from Kuningan or Senayan towards Harmoni, motorists can travel via Jalan KH Mas Mansyur, Jalan Cideng Barat, Jalan Balikpapan, and Jalan Suryopranoto.
Dishub DKI urged members of the public who have no business heading to the activity areas to avoid roads affected by traffic management and choose alternative routes.
Members of the public wishing to attend the series of 81st Independence Day celebrations are also advised to use public transport and follow signs and directions from officers in the field.
