Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) has stated that public transport operators and drivers have expressed their commitment to maintaining road safety during the 2026 Lebaran homecoming season.

Head of the Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho said in Jakarta on Thursday that the readiness of operators and drivers is aimed at ensuring security, safety, order and smooth traffic flow during the 2026 Lebaran homecoming and return journeys.

In terms of field implementation, he said, public transport operators have declared their readiness to conduct thorough inspections of their fleets before operating during the Lebaran period.

The operators will also ensure that every vehicle is roadworthy, has passed the KIR roadworthiness test, has optimal braking systems, and meets all administrative requirements.

Meanwhile, drivers have also expressed their readiness to maintain their physical and mental condition, observe rest periods, refrain from driving whilst fatigued, and adhere to traffic regulations.

Agus emphasised that synergy between regulators, law enforcement, operators and drivers is the key to reducing road accident figures.

"Lebaran is a moment of happiness. Safety must be a shared priority. We want the public to travel home safely, arrive at their destinations safely, and return safely," he said.

Furthermore, he continued, this readiness commitment is a follow-up to his directive as Kakorlantas to the Security and Safety Directorate (Ditkamsel) staff from the central to regional levels to intensify education efforts targeting public transport vehicle owners and drivers.

With these concrete commitments in place, he expressed optimism that the management of traffic security for Lebaran 2026 will proceed more effectively, humanely, and with a focus on prevention. This is in line with the spirit of Polri Presisi (Precision Policing) in protecting and serving the public.
