Traffic Corps Socialises Over-Dimension and Over-Load Vehicle Rules Ahead of 2027 Full Enforcement

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Traffic Police Corps (Korlantas) of the Indonesian National Police is socialising the rules on over-dimension and over-loaded vehicles to drivers and freight transport operators ahead of full enforcement beginning 1 January 2027.

The socialisation was carried out at KM 29A of the Jakarta–Cikampek toll road on Thursday, involving Korlantas Polri, the Ministry of Transport, PT Jasa Marga, PT Jasa Raharja, transport agencies and several other stakeholders.

“We are collaborating to carry out this socialisation activity for lorry drivers so that they pay greater attention to over-dimension and over-load vehicles,” said the Director of Law Enforcement at Korlantas Polri, Brigadier General I Made Agus Prasatya, in an official statement.

He said the activity aimed to educate drivers on the importance of complying with vehicle dimension and load capacity regulations.

In addition to drivers, Korlantas also appealed to owners and freight transport businesses to promptly normalise vehicles that have been modified into an over-dimension state.

“To business operators, we urge them to normalise vehicles that have already been made over-dimension so that they can later comply with the applicable regulations,” he said.

Made emphasised that the entire socialisation effort continues to prioritise a persuasive and educational approach.

According to ANTARA’s research, the regulations violated by over-dimension and over-loaded vehicles (Over Dimension Over Loading/ODOL) are briefly as follows:

First, for over-dimension vehicles, the violation falls under Article 277 of Law No. 22/2009 on Road Traffic and Transport. It is categorised as a criminal offence of physical modification without type approval, carrying heavy penalties of up to one year’s imprisonment or a maximum fine of Rp24 million, as well as an obligation to cut back or normalise the vehicle’s cargo bed.

Second, for over-loading, the violation falls under Article 307 of Law No. 22/2009. This is categorised as a traffic violation involving loading methods that do not conform to the vehicle’s carrying capacity and road class, carrying a maximum fine of Rp500,000 or two months’ imprisonment.
