REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIKAMPEK — The National Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police is preparing a local one-way scheme for the Lebaran return flow starting 23 March 2026 as a follow-up to the evaluation of the outbound mudik flow. The government predicts that the peak return flow will occur in two waves, namely 24–25 March and 28–29 March.

The Head of Korlantas Polri, Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho, stated that this traffic engineering is projected to anticipate the surge in vehicles during the return period. The calculation of vehicle distribution serves as the basis for determining measures on the ground.

“The experience of the outbound mudik shows a quite significant increase at its peak, from 258,000 to 270,000 vehicles. Of course, the return flow must also be anticipated,” said Agus at the Korlantas Polri Command Centre, Cikampek, on Saturday (21/3/2026).

Korlantas records that the distribution of vehicles heading to West Java is around 30 to 35 percent. This flow will be managed through the utilisation of the Japek II South Toll Road and the Bocimi route to reduce the load on the main route.

Agus explained that the portion of flow from the Trans-Java Toll Road is the main concern because its contribution is dominant. This route becomes a crucial point in regulating the return flow ahead of the peak vehicle movement.

“For those from Trans-Java, it reaches approximately 66 percent. This is what we must manage,” he said.

Agus explained that Korlantas is preparing a phased scheme in the implementation of the local one-way starting from Km 414 to Km 70. This scheme has the potential to be extended to Pejagan Km 263 if vehicle volume remains high.

The traffic engineering is designed flexibly to follow the dynamics on the ground. When there is an increase in vehicle generation, the one-way scheme will be extended to the point of flow constriction before widening again towards Jakarta.

“If necessary, on 23 March, we will begin implementing the first phase of the local one-way from Km 414 to Km 70. It is likely to be divided into two phases,” said Agus.

Korlantas is also preparing a contraflow towards Jakarta as a follow-up measure. This scheme is planned to apply from Km 70 to Km 55 or Km 36, depending on the flow conditions.

Monitoring is carried out through real-time traffic counting. Ongoing evaluation serves as the basis for adjusting traffic engineering on the ground.
