Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) has deployed assistance teams to handle holiday travellers still stopping on the shoulders of toll roads.

“Korlantas Polri, along with district police units, has deployed assistance teams, female police officers, and even personnel from the Army; including Kowad and Kowal. We wake them up and remind them to get moving. This is very humane,” said Head of the Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho at the Command Centre Post KM 29 of the Cikampek Toll Road, West Java, on Thursday.

He understands that holiday travellers are fatigued and stop on the road shoulder to rest. However, he emphasised that safety must remain the top priority.

“Indeed, we acknowledge there are many, but we also see that during times when they might want to have suhoor or break their fast, many park on the road shoulder. We actually hope this does not happen because it disrupts traffic flow and is prone to accidents,” he said.

Previously, Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner General of Police Dedi Prasetyo also urged the public not to rest on road shoulders as it poses risks to safety.

“If rest areas are full, please follow the instructions from the officers. Do not rest on the road shoulders because the shoulders of toll roads have a fairly high risk level,” he said.

Operation Ketupat 2026 is taking place over 13 days, from 13 March to 25 March 2026, involving 161,243 combined personnel.

The police have prepared 2,746 posts, consisting of 1,624 security posts, 779 service posts, and 343 integrated posts, as centres for information and services for the public travelling.

Security will also be focused on 185,607 objects, including mosques, Eid prayer locations, tourist sites, shopping centres, terminals, ports, train stations, and airports.
