Traffic Corps Chief Urges Returnees to Avoid Peak Return Flow on 24 March
The Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, has urged returnees not to undertake their return journeys on 24 March to avoid vehicle build-ups. That date has been predicted to be the peak of the return flow, with additional peaks expected on 28-29 March. “We urge the public, especially our colleagues currently in their hometowns, to avoid returning on the 24th due to the peak return flow, so as not to cause congestion,” Agus told reporters on Sunday (22/3). Agus reiterated the call for the public to take advantage of the work-from-anywhere (WFA) policy. This is hoped to prevent return vehicles from piling up at the same time. “Please utilise work-from-anywhere on the 26th, 27th, and 28th. Perhaps you can return on the 26th or 27th,” he said. Agus stated that his side has prepared various scenarios to anticipate density during the predicted two-phase peak return flow. “Hopefully with these two phases, the return flow on the 24th can be managed well. We will certainly implement a national one-way return flow as directed by the Chief of Police,” said the Traffic Corps Chief. In his monitoring, the Traffic Corps Chief noted developments in vehicle volumes during the Eid exodus and return. He stated that traffic conditions are quite under control. According to him, traffic flow developments are manageable despite increases in vehicle movements in several regions. “On the ninth day of Operation Ketupat or two days after Eid, traffic conditions remain quite under control. There is an increase in flow in line with predictions and technology monitoring results. Agglomeration movements are monitored as quite dense but still manageable,” said the Traffic Corps Chief. The Traffic Corps Chief explained that the flow increase aligns with predictions and technology-based monitoring, particularly in agglomeration movements in the Greater Semarang area up to the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi (Jabodetabek) region. “Several regions experiencing increased movements include Greater Semarang, Jabodetabek, as well as tourist areas in Bali, Greater Malang, Jakarta, and West Java. These tourist spots are quite popular with the public enjoying the holiday period,” he revealed. “The National Police Traffic Corps will also implement a national one-way scheme for the return flow, planned to start on 24 March, in line with the Chief of Police’s directives and coordination with the Minister of Transportation, the President Director of Jasa Marga, and Jasa Raharja,” he added.
