Traffic Corps Chief Urges Readiness for Demographic Bonus and Technology Challenges

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the Indonesian National Police’s Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General Wibowo, has asked all personnel to prepare for the challenges of the demographic bonus and technological developments that will affect traffic-related duties in the future. “Both will give rise to various challenges in the traffic function that we must prepare for from now on,” Wibowo said in his briefing to personnel, as quoted from an official statement in Jakarta on Monday. According to him, technological developments have changed the pattern of people’s lives. Besides facilitating the dissemination of information and public services, technology also presents challenges in the form of spreading hoaxes and provocative content that can potentially shape negative opinions towards the National Police. “Technology has become an absolute necessity for society. However, we must also deal with various baseless information, hoaxes, and content that deliberately resurrects past events to form negative opinions about an institution,” he said. In addition to technological developments, he highlighted the challenges of the demographic bonus, particularly concerning improving public compliance in traffic. According to Wibowo, traffic is a reflection of a nation’s culture. However, public discipline in traffic still needs improvement as violations are still found, such as driving against the flow and using pavements for motor vehicles. Therefore, he asked the ranks of the Traffic Corps and Regional Police Traffic Directorates to continue strengthening education, supervision, and law enforcement to build a culture of orderly traffic amidst the changing times. Inspector General Wibowo officially assumed the position of Head of the Traffic Corps after a handover ceremony on Saturday (4/7). He previously served as the Director of Registration and Identification at the Traffic Corps.
