Traffic Corps Chief Urges Ranks to Prepare for Demographic Bonus and Technological Challenges

The Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas Polri), Inspector General Wibowo, has reminded all ranks of the Traffic Corps and Regional Traffic Directorates across Indonesia to prepare for major challenges in the traffic sector. Inspector General Wibowo stated that the demographic bonus and rapid technological advancements will influence the execution of traffic duties in the future.

‘There are two major potentials we are currently facing: the demographic bonus and technological progress. Both will give rise to various challenges in the traffic function that we must prepare for now,’ explained Inspector General Wibowo during his briefing on Monday (6/7/2026).

Inspector General Wibowo explained that technological developments have changed people’s lifestyles. On one hand, technology facilitates the dissemination of information and public services. On the other hand, technology also presents challenges in the form of rampant hoaxes and provocative content that can potentially shape negative public opinion towards the Indonesian National Police.

‘Technology has become an absolute necessity for society. However, we must also deal with various baseless information, hoaxes, and content that deliberately resurrects old incidents to form negative opinions about an institution,’ he said.

Inspector General Wibowo noted that traffic behaviour is a reflection of the nation’s culture. He assessed that public discipline in traffic is still low, citing various violations such as driving against the flow and motorcycles using pavements. He urged all ranks of the Traffic Corps and Regional Traffic Directorates to continuously strengthen education, supervision, and law enforcement efforts to foster a culture of orderly traffic amidst the challenges of the times.
