Traffic Corps Chief States 60 Per Cent of Enforcement in Operation Patuh Utilises ETLE
The Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stated that 60 per cent of enforcement actions during Operation Patuh 2026, held from 8–21 June 2026, will utilise electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE). Meanwhile, 30 per cent of enforcement will be carried out through manual summons, and 10 per cent will consist of warnings or humanistic approaches, he said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
In other words, this year’s Operation Patuh prioritises digital-based law enforcement through ETLE, he added. He revealed that one of the primary targets in the operation is vehicles that intentionally obstruct ETLE camera readings through various methods of licence plate manipulation. Violations targeted include plates that have been removed, not installed, partially covered, modified, or obscured using stickers or paint to prevent them from being readable by ETLE cameras.
Meanwhile, manual enforcement will be applied to several violations that endanger road users. The focus of these actions includes driving against the flow of traffic, visible road violations, and various driving behaviours that potentially endanger other road users, he said. Nevertheless, he emphasised that Operation Patuh 2026 continues to prioritise education and a humanistic approach. “This year’s Operation Patuh must be different. The public should comply not out of fear of officers, but out of an awareness of order and safety on the road,” he stated. Through Operation Patuh 2026, he hopes that public compliance with traffic regulations will increase, thereby supporting the achievement of safety, order, and smooth traffic flow across all regions of Indonesia.
