The peak of the 2026 Lebaran exodus took place two days ago. The Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Irjen Agus Suryonugroho, stated that the vehicle volume during this year’s peak exodus is the highest in history.

“The highest Lebaran exodus peak in history, approximately 270,315,” said Irjen Agus at the Jasa Marga Toll Road Command Centre (JMTC) office in Jatiasih, Bekasi, on Friday (20/3/2026).

To address this, several different traffic engineering measures were necessary to anticipate the high number of vehicles passing through for the exodus. As a result, the peak exodus was brought under control.

“We carried out three treatments. First, the closure of the MBZ due to related conditions. Second, apologies for the contraflow of one lane from (Km) 36 to 47. We are still evaluating it; from (Km) 47 to 48, we implemented contraflow on lane 2. From 48 to 70, we set up contraflow on lane 3,” he said.

“Therefore, the quite high peak flow could be managed well, so that when leaving kilometre 70 to 414, it was smooth. That is what we can convey,” he added.

On the same occasion, the President Director of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, Rivan Achmad Purwantono, mentioned that data up to 06:00 this morning showed around 1.6 million vehicles had left Jakarta. This figure reaches 48 percent of the prediction that 3.5 million vehicles will leave Jakarta.

“But we need to convey that at 06:00 this morning, from the total of 3.5 million vehicles estimated to exit Jakarta, 1.6 (million) or 48% have already exited. And the dominance remains towards Trans Java at 54.6%,” said Rivan.

On 19 March yesterday, the number of passing vehicles had decreased. For the return flow itself, the prediction is that it will occur on 24 March.

“And even on 19 March yesterday, the total vehicles dropped back to 208,825 exiting. We hope this becomes important; our appeal is that our prediction for the return flow later is on 24 March,” he said.
