Traffic Corps Chief: Operation Patuh aims to reduce violations and accidents

The Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri), Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stated that one of the primary objectives of implementing Operation Patuh 2026 is to reduce traffic violations and accidents. “The goal of the presence of traffic police officers in Operation Patuh is to reduce traffic violations and accidents, so we urge all road users to maintain order,” Agus said in East Jakarta on Thursday.

Regarding enforcement methods, Agus explained that 60 per cent of actions will be conducted via Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE), 30 per cent through manual ticketing, and 10 per cent through warnings or humanistic approaches. “Korlantas Polri and its divisions will deploy ETLE, including drone-based ETLE, static ETLE, and handheld ETLE that can monitor traffic mobilely,” he added.

He also highlighted several key violations that will be prioritised during this operation, including driving against the flow of traffic, failure to wear helmets, and using mobile phones while driving. Through the 30 per cent manual ticketing component, authorities hope the public will adhere to traffic regulations to prevent fatal incidents. “Driving against the flow is fatal, as is not wearing a helmet. Other violations will also be monitored because Operation Patuh only lasts for 14 days. Therefore, we will optimise surveillance on the roads and ensure all officers are present in the field,” he said.

Korlantas Polri is scheduled to conduct Operation Patuh 2026 from 18–21 June. During the operation, targeted violations include licence plates that have been removed, not installed, partially covered, modified, or obscured using stickers or paint to prevent them from being readable by ETLE cameras. Meanwhile, manual enforcement will be applied to various violations that endanger the safety of road users.
