Traffic Corps Chief Admits Handling of This Year's Homecoming Traffic is Different
The Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Polri, Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho, stated that the handling of the 2026 homecoming traffic was carried out with a different approach compared to previous years. The difference was evident in the traffic engineering scheme implemented from the start of the peak homecoming flow on Wednesday (18/3/2026). Agus explained that evaluations with stakeholders showed that the homecoming traffic conditions remained generally under control despite an increase in vehicle volume. The traffic engineering was adjusted to the surge to keep movements smooth until reaching destinations. The homecoming flow was quite controlled. This year is indeed different. Compared to last year, there was an increase of about 4.62 per cent, from 258,000 to 270,000 vehicles on the peak day. Therefore, the handling was also different,” said the two-star general at the Korlantas Polri Command Centre in Cikampek on Friday (20/3/2026). According to Agus, the increase in vehicle volume prompted the police to implement more aggressive measures. During the peak homecoming flow, contraflow was enforced up to three lanes by utilising the road shoulders at several strategic points. The scheme was applied from KM 36 to KM 70. After passing that point, the traffic flow became smooth again, and homecomers could continue their journeys safely to their respective destinations. “During the peak, we even closed the road shoulder and implemented contraflow from KM 36 to KM 70 up to three lanes. After KM 70, conditions were relatively smooth; alhamdulillah, the homecomers could reach their destinations safely,” Agus said.
