Traffic Corps Assists Investigation into Fatal Indramayu Crash

The Directorate of Law Enforcement of the National Police Traffic Corps is assisting in the handling of a traffic accident on the Pantura highway, specifically in Kiajaran Kulon Village, Indramayu, West Java. Brigadier General I Made Agus Prasatya, Director of Law Enforcement at the Traffic Corps, stated that this assistance reflects the commitment to uncovering the cause of the accident, which resulted in three fatalities. “We ensure that every traffic accident, especially those resulting in fatalities, is handled professionally, scientifically, and transparently,” he said. The team, led in the field by Senior Commissioner Mariochristy PS Siregar, conducted an initial meeting with the Indramayu Police to deepen the investigation into the crime scene processing, witness statements, and evidence. Preliminary results indicate no braking marks were found from the two Hino trucks involved before they collided with a Daihatsu Grand Max that was stopped to make a U-turn. The team has also interviewed the truck driver, though the examination is considering the driver’s psychological condition due to trauma. Video footage circulating on social media has been obtained to support the analysis of vehicle speed prior to the crash, as nearby CCTV cameras were not directed at the exact point of impact. To strengthen scientific evidence, the Traffic Corps, together with the Traffic Accident Analysis team, conducted crime scene processing using 3D Laser Scanner technology. The team identified that the U-turn point used was not an official turning point but an access opened unofficially by residents. According to the West Java Provincial Transportation Agency, the distance between official U-turns on that road section is approximately 800 metres. As a follow-up, the Traffic Corps held a focus group discussion with the West Java Transportation and Public Works agencies to evaluate road safety aspects along the Pantura route in Kiajaran Kulon Village. The evaluation agreed on the need to reorganise U-turn points according to regulations, improve coordination between the police and relevant agencies, and evaluate the installation of traffic signs to enhance road user safety. All crime scene processing and technical analysis results have been submitted to investigators for further proceedings.
