A truck transporting heavy equipment became stuck on a pedestrian bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean, South Jakarta. The accident has caused traffic congestion. “The congestion impact extends to the Kuningan intersection, Rasuna Said, and also Jalan Warung Buncit,” said Kompol Robby Hefados, Head of Binopsnal at the Metro Jaya Regional Police Traffic Directorate, on Tuesday (14/7/2026). Robby stated that traffic police are currently on standby at the location to manage the congestion. He said there is no road closure yet, but Jalan Kapten Tendean, where the truck is stuck, is only passable in one lane. Robby added that his team will implement traffic engineering at 8:30 AM WIB in preparation for the evacuation process. Vehicles from Jalan Warung Buncit, Jalan Gatot Subroto, or Kuningan heading towards Blok M will be reduced. “People heading towards Senopati can choose alternative routes; we are diverting them to Warung Buncit, and from Warung Buncit we are directing them to turn left. Traffic flow from Gatot Subroto is being reduced to ease congestion,” he said. “Vehicles from Jalan Kapten Tendean are being restricted from going up the flyover, so people from Kapten Tendean wanting to go towards Blok M are directed to Jalan Mampang Prapatan Raya up to Warung Buncit, then to make a U-turn at the nearest point and turn left back onto Tendean,” he explained. The accident occurred at half past midnight, 00:30 WIB. The truck with the registration number B-9077-UFU was initially travelling along the Jalan Kapten Tendean area. The accident is suspected to have begun when the driver was playing with a mobile phone while driving. “The driver of the heavy equipment towing vehicle did not account for the maximum load height,” read a statement from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). Upon arriving at the location, the truck driver saw the pedestrian bridge. However, because he was allegedly playing with his mobile phone while driving, the driver did not account for the height of the load he was carrying until it eventually got stuck on the bridge. “The driver saw the JPO but was unaware as he was focused on his mobile phone,” wrote BPBD Jakarta. “As a result, because he did not account for the maximum load height, the unit being transported got caught on the JPO, causing the bridge to be quite severely damaged,” BPBD stated.
