Kompol Ridha Poetera Aditya, Head of Traffic Unit for North Jakarta Metro Police Residency, said traffic congestion in the Tanjung Priok Port area, North Jakarta, which began on Monday afternoon, is now beginning to ease. Traffic flow from Jalan Yos Sudarso in North Jakarta towards Jalan Raya Cilincing has started to move after a lengthy congestion in the area.

“Alhamdulillah, traffic flow began moving at 7.20pm WIB after efforts to clear the congestion,” Kompol Ridha said on Monday evening.

He said the prolonged congestion was triggered by export and import activities in the area, compounded by high vehicle volumes. “High vehicle volumes caused the incident,” he added.

Ridha said officers are currently working on-site to manage traffic flow and restore normal conditions. “I am still on-site with other officers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yulza Romadhoni, Head of Operations Section for North Jakarta Transportation Department, said congestion is easing despite remaining heavy, particularly in the Tanah Merdeka area towards Cakung Cilincing (Cacing).

“We monitored at 7.21pm WIB that traffic in the Tanah Merdeka to Cacing area is flowing, albeit still congested,” he said.

Yulza said the congestion was caused by container depot loading and unloading activities in Cakung Cilincing. The North Jakarta Transportation Department is collaborating with police to clear the stalled traffic flow. He added he is directly monitoring his officers in the Tanah Merdeka area to ease the congestion.

“The cause of the congestion is indeed high activity at the container truck depots leading to traffic jams,” he said.

The Tanjung Priok Port Authority Marine Office (KSOP) stated that the prolonged traffic congestion along Jalan Yos Sudarso to Tanjung Priok Port and Cilincing was caused by container depot activities in the Cakung area, East Jakarta.

“Traffic jams resulted from container depot activities in the Cakung area, East Jakarta,” said Heru.

The depots are directly connected to the Tanjung Priok Port area via Jalan Raya Cilincing and Cakung Cilincing. “Loading/unloading activities and ship berthing are normal today,” he said.
