Traffic congestion involving vehicles occurred on the elevated section of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed (MBZ) toll road this morning. The Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Polri, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stated that the congestion is usually due to problematic vehicles.

“Usually, there are vehicles that are having trouble. Yesterday, there was one whose oil was completely depleted, and we assisted as well. This causes slowdowns,” said Inspector General Agus after the release of the free homecoming Polri Presisi 2026 at Polda Metro Jaya on Wednesday (18/3/2026).

In addition, slowdowns can be caused by minor accidents or drivers who are fatigued and stop on the roadside. Thus, the traffic flow slowdown is temporary and is continuously handled by officers.

“There are minor accidents, including drivers who are tired and sleeping on the roadside. So, it’s only temporary; after we provide service, we have a clearing team, we approach them, wake them up, and get the traffic flowing again,” he said.

“So, it’s only temporary because sometimes the condition of road users’ vehicles can be stuck or other issues,” he added.

Inspector General Agus emphasised that he has urged the preparedness of drivers who will be heading home for Eid since far in advance. This includes the technical aspects that must be done while driving to ensure a safe and comfortable homecoming.

“This includes what time you drive, you must stop every three hours. Where to stop, at which rest area, this has been informed from the beginning,” he stated.

Previously, based on the social media X page of Jasamarga on Wednesday (18/3/2026), vehicle traffic congestion on the MBZ toll road had occurred from Bekasi Barat Km 12 to Bekasi Timur Km 16, then Tambun Km 19 to Cibitung Km 23 at 09.08 WIB.

“Cibitung Km 24-Cikarang Barat Km 30 is congested, traffic volume density. Cikarang Barat Km 31-Cikarang Pusat Km 37 is congested, traffic volume density,” wrote Jasamarga.

Congestion on the MBZ toll road also occurred from Cikarang Pusat Km 40 to Karawang Barat Km 42 Cikampek due to traffic volume density.

Meanwhile, the MBZ toll road in the Karawang-Cikarang-Tambun-Cikunir section has smooth vehicle traffic conditions.

Traffic engineering is being implemented entering the peak period of the Eid al-Fitr homecoming flow on 18-19 March 2026. The National Police Traffic Corps has enforced contraflow up to one-way systems to anticipate the increasing volume of homecoming vehicles for Eid al-Fitr.

The implementation of contraflow has been carried out on the Cikampek toll road from Km 55 to 70 heading towards Trans Java. The enforcement began on Tuesday night (17/3).
