Traffic Chief Estimates Peak Homecoming Flow to Occur on Wednesday Night
“Tonight, we are patrolling the toll road. Compared to yesterday, the peak of the homecoming flow might be tonight. From this morning until tonight, it has been quite busy,” he said after directly monitoring traffic conditions at the Posko Command Center KM 29 on the Cikampek Toll Road in West Java, early Thursday morning.
Based on observations up to Wednesday (18/3), he estimated that 42 percent of vehicles had already left Jakarta.
“Compared to yesterday (Tuesday, 17/3), which was 221,000 vehicles, the projection for Wednesday night is 250,000 vehicles. So, the final figure is still to be awaited at 06:00 in the morning,” he said.
In addition, he continued, based on monitoring of arterial roads, there has been a slight increase in traffic flow due to the implementation of national one-way traffic engineering on the toll road from KM 70 to KM 414. Nevertheless, traffic flow on that route was still observed to be quite smooth.
“If you are tired, please rest at the rest area or perhaps exit the rest area. So, the most important thing in this homecoming journey is safety,” he stated.
He also assured that the Traffic Police would always accompany homebound travellers to ensure smooth travel.
“The smile of the traffic police is the main hallmark. We are present to accompany the homebound travellers. The traffic police are here to accompany our fellow citizens who are going home,” he said.
Based on ANTARA’s observations, on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road in the early hours of Thursday, queues of vehicles, dominated by private cars, began to build up densely from KM 7. Along the journey up to KM 29, the vehicle queues were observed to be dense.
Previously, PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk revealed that the peak of the 2026 Lebaran homecoming flow is estimated to occur on 18 March, and the peak of the 2026 Lebaran return flow is estimated to occur on 24 March.
