Traffic Chief: 2026 Eid Exodus and Return Flows at Record High Can Be Managed Well
National Police Traffic Corps Chief Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho stated that the 2026 Eid al-Fitr exodus and return traffic volumes were the highest in history. Nevertheless, Inspector General Agus said the exodus and return flows were managed effectively.
Inspector General Agus noted that the 2026 exodus reached 270,000 vehicles in a single day. According to him, this figure is the highest in Indonesia’s history.
“Indeed, there was a significant surge in traffic, and during the exodus, there was the highest exodus flow in history. So, 270,513 vehicles in one day left Jakarta for Trans-Java, Sumatra, and West Java,” said Inspector General Agus via video in a discussion held by the House of Representatives Commission V at the DPR RI, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (9/4/2026).
Inspector General Agus said a similar number occurred during the return flow. He emphasised that his side successfully handled this year’s exodus and return traffic well.
“Including the highest return flow that occurred on the 24th, totalling 256,388. So, the peak exodus and return flows could be managed well; we implemented contraflow, precise segmented one-way, up to national one-way,” he said.
However, Inspector General Agus conveyed that the success of the 2026 exodus was due to the role of all parties. Including, he said, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
“As the National Police Traffic Corps Chief, the success of this Ketupat Operation is a collective success of everyone, stakeholders and the leadership of Mr. Police Chief who was present in the field to manage and control traffic, including aspects of security maintenance, public order, and traffic safety,” he stated.
