JAKARTA — A wave of migration from the Jakarta-Bogor-Tangerang-Bekasi region eastward towards East Java is showing signs of congestion earlier than usual.

PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (JTT) recorded 108,140 vehicles passing through the Cikampek Utama toll gate during the period from ten days to eight days before Lebaran in 2026. This figure represents a sharp increase of 24.17 percent compared to normal traffic volume, which typically stands at around 87,000 vehicles.

This significant surge occurred before the toll tariff discount scheme was officially activated, indicating that some travellers deliberately started their journeys early to avoid severe congestion during peak migration periods.

Jasa Marga Group is confirmed to implement a 30 percent toll tariff reduction for travellers making continuous journeys from the Cikampek Utama toll gate to the Kalikangkung toll gate on 15-16 March 2026.

Corporate Secretary and Legal Officer of PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol, Ria Marlinda Paallo, revealed that this scheme could be even more attractive on certain stretches. “Specifically on the Batang-Semarang stretch managed by PT Jasamarga Semarang Batang (JSB), road users receive an additional tariff reduction such that the total can reach approximately 46 percent,” Ria stated on Saturday, 14 March 2026.

Although traffic engineering measures such as one-way or contraflow systems have not yet been implemented on the Jakarta-Cikampek stretch, pressure at transaction points is already being anticipated.

At the Cikampek Utama toll gate, 30 operational booths have been placed on standby to maintain transaction pace and prevent long queues. Booth optimisation is performed on a situational basis.

Ria added that the operation of 19 booths towards the Trans Jawa direction and 11 booths towards Jakarta are monitored continuously to adjust to fluctuations in traffic volume on the ground.

Moving to the eastern region, the Warugunung toll gate in East Java also recorded traffic growth towards Surabaya of 8.40 percent. Interestingly, the route towards Malang through the Kejapanan Utama toll gate was observed to decline slightly by approximately 4 percent, indicating that current movement is still dominated by long-distance travellers between major cities rather than local tourism flows.
