Traffic Accident Fatalities Drop 30.4 Percent During Eid al-Fitr 2026 Homecoming and Return Flows
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Traffic accident fatalities were recorded to have decreased by 30.4 percent compared to the previous period during the implementation of Operation Ketupat 2026, which was held to secure the Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return flows.
“Fatalities of victims who died decreased by 30.4 percent, and the number of accident incidents also fell by 5.3 percent,” said the Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Polri, Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho, in his statement on Friday (27/3/2026).
During that period, the Indonesian National Police applied various traffic engineering schemes, ranging from national and local one-way systems to contraflow on several sections of the Trans-Java Toll Road.
Security efforts were also focused on five main clusters, namely arterial roads, toll roads, ferry crossing ports, places of worship, and tourist locations.
These steps were taken to anticipate the potential second wave of return flows, as there is still movement of people in several agglomeration areas.
“Operation Ketupat has been closed, but intensified routine activities continue to run. Personnel are still on standby in the field to anticipate the return flow, including the second wave,” said Agus.
