The traditional vessel KM Makmur Jaya, carrying 150 passengers to Pulau Pramuka, experienced engine trouble in the waters west of Pulau Pari, South Kepulauan Seribu. A total of 63 passengers were evacuated using boats belonging to the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub DKI).

Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, stated that the incident occurred on Sunday (5/7/2026). His team immediately responded after receiving a report that the vessel had encountered problems mid-voyage.

“Passenger safety is the priority. After receiving the information, we immediately deployed two boats belonging to the Transportation Agency to assist with the evacuation process alongside other relevant parties. Alhamdulillah, all passengers were successfully evacuated safely and were able to continue their journey to Pulau Pramuka as intended,” Budi said in a statement on Monday (6/7).

Budi explained that KM Makmur Jaya is a traditional vessel operated by the community. The boat departed from Kali Adem Port heading for Pulau Pramuka at 08.15 WIB.

However, at around 09.55 WIB, the vessel suffered engine trouble while in the waters west of Pulau Pari. It is suspected that the disruption occurred because the boat’s fuel was contaminated with water, causing the engine to fail and the voyage to halt.

Information regarding the incident was received by officers at 10.20 WIB. Upon receiving the report, cross-sector personnel immediately headed to the location to carry out the passenger evacuation process.

During the evacuation, the Passenger Ship Indra Kumala and Patrol Boat Hiu 5 evacuated 63 passengers. Meanwhile, some other passengers were evacuated using a boat belonging to the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), while passengers who were residents of Pulau Pari remained on the island.

“All evacuated passengers finally arrived safely at Pulau Pramuka at 13.20 WIB and were able to continue their activities according to their travel purposes,” he said.

The handling process involved the Jakarta Transportation Agency, the Harbourmaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP) of the Ministry of Transportation, the Police, the Jakarta BPBD, the Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service, health workers, and other relevant parties.

“The Jakarta Transportation Agency ensured the evacuation process took place safely and smoothly without causing any casualties,” he concluded.
