Traditional Oil Well Explodes in Aceh's Darul Ihsan

The East Aceh Police have confirmed that a traditional oil well belonging to local residents in Gampong Lhok Lemak, Darul Ihsan District, East Aceh Regency, exploded on Sunday.

AKP Novrizaldi, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Aceh Police, stated that five fire engines were deployed to the location to extinguish the flames. The exact cause of the fire resulting from the oil well explosion is yet to be determined.

Novrizaldi noted that officers are currently working to extinguish the fire while securing the site. Cordon tape has been installed to prevent the public from approaching the fire site, which remains hazardous.

According to gathered information, the fire is suspected to have originated from an explosion in the traditional oil well area. However, the precise cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

The firefighting process has faced difficulties because the source of the fire is an oil well that continues to discharge flammable materials. Officers are continuing their efforts to bring the flames under control.

The ongoing blaze has forced officials to work with extreme caution to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas, including nearby residents’ palm oil plantations.

Dozens of residents gathered at a safe distance to witness the firefighting efforts. Security personnel have repeatedly urged the public to stay away to anticipate the possibility of secondary explosions.

In addition to extinguishing the fire, officers are also isolating the area around the oil well to prevent the spread of the flames, while prioritising the safety of personnel on the ground.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement regarding casualties, injuries, or the extent of material losses resulting from the incident.
