Traditional marts more competitive

JAKARTA (JP): The West Jakarta branch of P.D. Pasar Jaya, the
city markets authority, is planning to make traditional markets
in its area more competitive this year.

PD Pasar Jaya official M. Saleh Tuasikal was quoted by Antara
on Thursday as saying that West Jakarta's traditional markets had
advantages which could not be matched by supermarkets or
luxurious shopping malls.

"Traditional markets offer their customers fresher and cheaper
fish, meat and vegetables," he said.

The West Jakarta mayoralty has 27 city-owned traditional
markets at present. (mas)
