Traditional Attire Adds Colour of Diversity to MPR Annual Session 2026
The MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD in 2026 at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Friday (14/8/2026), not only featured a state address by President Prabowo Subianto. The nuance of Indonesian diversity was also strongly felt through the various traditional outfits worn by MPR members and invited guests.
A variety of traditional attire from different regions across Indonesia adorned the session hall. These traditional clothes became part of the Annual Session’s atmosphere, representing the cultural wealth and diversity of Indonesian society.
One attendee wearing traditional attire was MPR member from the DPD group, Ina Ammania. She wore a Tapis from Lampung as a form of affection and a simple effort to help preserve the region’s cultural heritage. "Today I am wearing a Tapis from Lampung. I deliberately chose this as a simple way to participate in preserving Indonesian culture," Ina said in a statement on Friday (14/8/2026).
According to Ina, wearing traditional attire at a state event carries significant meaning. Besides strengthening national identity, the diversity of clothing worn by MPR members and invited guests shows that Indonesia is built from various ethnicities, cultures, and traditions living side by side within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
"This is part of how we show that Indonesia possesses extraordinary cultural wealth. Cultural differences actually become a strength to reinforce unity," she said.
The nuance of diversity was also visible from the presence of President Prabowo Subianto’s invited guests, who came from various backgrounds and regions. They also took part in the series of the 2026 MPR Annual Session.
In addition to the traditional attire, the atmosphere at the Nusantara Building was also coloured by an exhibition displaying portraits of ‘Notes on 121 Problems Solved in the First 21 Months’. The exhibition showcased various public issues and the government’s steps in delivering solutions through a number of programmes under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.
The presence of traditional attire and various cultural elements at the 2026 MPR Annual Session further emphasised that state occasions are not only a space to convey government achievements and agendas, but also a stage to nurture Indonesia’s identity, diversity, and culture.
