Traders complain over high fees

BEKASI (JP): Many traders operating at the Pasar Baru market here are complaining over the high level of fees, Rp 2,900 (US$1.31), they have to pay daily.

One of the traders, who requested anonymity, said that out of the total of daily fees, only Rp 500 is legally registered through tickets given to the traders. "The other Rp 2,400 is collected by officers of the market without any receipts," he said.

He said that the traders have filed complaints with the market management over the fees, but no response has yet been made.

Part of the fees are collected for garbage handling, but in many cases the piles of garbage are left untouched so that they disturb both the traders and customers.

The head of the market management was not available for comment. (12/hhr)
