Traders Complain of Mounting Rubbish at Kramat Jati Market Despite Regular Retribution Payments

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Mounting rubbish at Pasar Induk Kramat Jati in East Jakarta was complained about by traders on Sunday (29/3/2026). The complaints arose because the traders claim to pay cleanliness retribution regularly to the management, Perumda Pasar Jaya. Despite paying every month, the traders assess that the rubbish at the main market is not being handled well. “We complain because we pay every month, like it or not. Meanwhile, business like this has plummeted drastically, and if we’re late on monthly rubbish payments, even by two or three months, we get warnings and our stalls are sealed,” said one trader, Suratno, when met on Sunday (29/3/2026). According to Suratno, the rubbish piles are also disrupting traders’ activities, especially during the loading and unloading of goods. “Previously, the paths were smooth because they were clear. Now it’s getting narrower. Well, you can imagine the situation there. So the parking rules are convenient now that it’s so narrow,” he said. Similar complaints were voiced by another trader, Susanti. She considers the rubbish problem at Pasar Induk Kramat Jati unresolved. However, according to Susanti, traders are still required to pay monthly retribution ranging from Rp600,000 to Rp900,000, depending on the kiosk size. “Nothing, sir, we still get billed every month via CMS, it’s bad. No relief, in fact, we’re being tightened now; even late payments get us warnings,” said Susanti. She mentioned that traders received information that the condition is caused by a shortage of rubbish transport trucks to Bantargebang. “We traders are severely disadvantaged by this piled-up rubbish; our air gets into it,” she said. Previously, piles of rubbish were seen mounting again at Pasar Induk Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, on Sunday, 29 March 2026. Similar rubbish mountains were known to have occurred in January 2026. At that time, the rubbish height reached six metres due to a shortage of transport fleets.
