Trader Stalls at SGC Cikarang Market in Bekasi Destroyed by Fire, 7 Kios Burnt

Several street vendor stalls at the old Sentra Grosir Cikarang (SGC) market, North Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, were destroyed by fire on Sunday (17/05/2026) at approximately 19:43 WIB. Usman Said, a member of the Bekasi Regency Fire and Rescue Service (Disdamkarmat), stated that at least seven trader stalls were consumed by the flames. “It is estimated that seven stalls were burnt. The cause of the fire is not yet known and is still being investigated by the relevant authorities,” Usman said when confirmed via a short message on Monday (18/05/2026). However, the condition of the market area, which is crowded with stalls and located in narrow alleys, presented obstacles to the firefighting operations. “The extinguishing process was initially hindered. The fire originated on the second floor of the eastern area of the market, which is occupied by clothing traders,” Usman explained. Firefighters even had to move several stalls around the fire’s origin to allow access for firefighting efforts and to prevent the flames from spreading further.
