The Ministry of Trade is targeting transactions worth Rp38 trillion during the 2026 Indonesia Shopping Festival (ISF), scheduled to take place from 7 to 23 August 2026. Director General of Domestic Trade Iqbal Shoffan Shofwan stated that this target marks a significant increase from the previous year’s realisation of approximately Rp25 trillion. “If we compare it to 2025, the ISF achieved around Rp25 trillion in transactions. For 2026, APPBI (the Indonesian Shopping Centre Management Association) has raised the target to Rp38 trillion,” Iqbal said during a press conference at the Ministry of Trade office in Jakarta on Thursday. He explained that this year’s shopping festival will not only be held in major cities but simultaneously across Indonesia, with participation from 407 shopping centres, up from around 380 in the inaugural event. Iqbal expressed optimism that the target can be met, given the growing participation from businesses and strong public enthusiasm. He noted that the increased target aligns with the government’s efforts to sustain economic growth, which is largely supported by household consumption. “This target increase also supports our first-quarter economic report, which showed growth of 5.6 per cent, with 54 per cent of that driven by household consumption,” he said. Beyond the domestic market, the Ministry of Trade plans to leverage its overseas trade representatives to attract international tourists, particularly from ASEAN countries and the Pacific region such as Australia, to visit Indonesia during the festival. Meanwhile, APPBI Chairman Alphonzus Widjaja said the festival, held in conjunction with Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations, will introduce new strategies to boost transactions. In addition to offering discounts of up to 80 per cent, the event has been extended from 11 to 17 days. APPBI has also prepared various prizes, culinary programmes, entertainment, and Independence Day-themed activities to draw more visitors to shopping centres. “We believe these will be key strategies to attract visitors to shopping centres, where they will be presented with various shopping promotions,” he added.
