The Ministry of Trade is prioritising the development of high value-added product exports as a strategy to drive national economic growth in the coming years while strengthening Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global market. Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade, Fajarini Puntodewi, stated that future export development will not solely rely on primary commodities but will be directed towards various leading sectors with significant potential in international markets. “The government’s priority in the next few years is to encourage exports of products with higher added value to enhance Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global market and make a greater contribution to national economic growth,” Puntodewi said in Jakarta on Wednesday. She explained that the export development focus covers various sectors, ranging from agricultural products, plantations, fisheries, processed foods, electronics, automotive, footwear, textiles, iron and steel, to furniture. In terms of markets, the Ministry of Trade is focusing its promotion and export penetration on key partner countries such as China, the United States, India, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan. Additionally, the government is also targeting other potential markets including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Russia, Canada, Kazakhstan, Peru, Pakistan, and Kenya, by leveraging the various international trade agreements Indonesia has established. To strengthen export promotion, the Directorate General of National Export Development will organise 178 international trade promotion events throughout 2026.
