Trade Ministry explores metrology training cooperation with partner countries
Sumedang (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Trade is exploring education and training cooperation in metrology with a number of countries to expand the development of expertise in measurement, testing and calibration.
Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, head of the Ministry of Trade’s Human Resources Development Agency, said in Sumedang, West Java, on Wednesday that cooperation could take the form of short-term training programmes or regular courses at the Academy of Metrology and Instrumentation (Akmet).
“We want to share our capabilities with our partner countries. Alongside regular education, we can also organise various forms of short-term training,” he said.
He said metrology plays an important role in supporting trade and industry because accurate measurement, testing and calibration are needed to ensure reliable results.
Djatmiko said the diplomatic delegation’s visit also gave partner countries an opportunity to see first-hand Akmet’s educational capacity and facilities for training metrology experts.
The visit also served as a form of knowledge diplomacy involving countries from Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, South-east Asia and Latin America, in line with the South-South cooperation promoted by Indonesia.
However, Djatmiko said no concrete cooperation had yet been established, as further discussions were needed to identify needs and determine what programmes could be jointly implemented.
The Ministry of Trade hopes the exploratory discussions will lead to education and training programmes suited to partner countries’ needs while broadening the use of Indonesian metrology expertise.
