Trade Ministry: Broker Competency Certification Provides Consumer Protection

The Director of Electronic Commerce and Trade Services at the Ministry of Trade, Dwinanto Rumpoko, stated that competency certification for property brokers aims to provide consumer protection. He said that after the socialisation period for Minister of Trade Regulation No. 33 of 2025 ends in October 2026, the government will begin imposing sanctions on uncertified property brokers, starting with warnings. “Property brokers must have the ability to serve their consumers well, as proven by competency certification,” Dwinanto said in a statement received in Tangerang, Banten, on Saturday.

Adi Mahfudz Wuhadji, Commissioner of the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP), added that certification is key to building consumer trust in carrying out their duties. “Trust is the key to success for property brokers. If they have a competency certificate, the public will have more confidence in their abilities,” he said.

The Regional Board of the Indonesian Real Estate Broker Association (AREBI) Banten, together with the Indonesian Property Broker Professional Certification Institute (LSP BPI), held a competency certification event for 260 property brokers in Gading Serpong. Participants came from various business backgrounds, including property brokerage firms affiliated with international franchises and local brands.

AREBI Chairman Clement Francis said the activity is part of efforts to strengthen professionalism and service standards in the property brokerage industry. “AREBI will continue to produce professional and ethical property brokers through certification,” he said. Chairman of AREBI Banten, Vemby Intan, noted that the issuance and enforcement of Minister of Trade Regulation No. 33 of 2025, which requires property brokers to have competency certificates, has provided clearer standards for the industry. He said certification ensures public protection and guarantees that businesses provide professional services.

Ferry Anwar, Deputy Chairman of AREBI Banten, said property brokers in Banten are increasingly aware of the importance of certification to work professionally and gain public trust. He noted a rise in certification applications following the regulation’s enactment. “DPD AREBI Banten will continue to expand competency certification through active socialisation, both offline and online, including via social media and other communication channels,” he said. AREBI’s national board is targeting 5,000 certified property brokers by the end of the socialisation period in October 2026.

Paulus Kusumo, Executive Director of LSP BPI, said the implementation of the regulation has accelerated certification applications from business actors, with growing awareness of the importance of professional legality and competence. “Business actors now better understand the importance of certification so that the public can distinguish between legal, professional property brokers and those who are not. LSP BPI provides good and fast service to business actors who wish to undergo assessment and obtain a competency certificate,” he said.
