Trade Ministry and Shopee Launch Local Product Acceleration Programme
The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) together with Shopee Indonesia has launched the Local Product Acceleration Programme to expand market access and increase the competitiveness of domestic business actors through the digital ecosystem. Trade Minister Budi Santoso said the programme is one of the implementations of Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) Number 19 of 2026 concerning the Organisation of Trading Business Through Electronic Systems (PMSE). “We are indeed emphasising how local products are prioritised in this e-commerce ecosystem, on this platform, so that they are more quickly recognised by consumers and thus you will produce more,” said Budi in Jakarta on Thursday. Permendag Number 19 of 2026 replaces Permendag Number 31 of 2023 and, among other things, regulates the prioritisation of promotion of domestic products and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), transparency of information and costs, and consumer protection. The regulation has been in effect since its promulgation on 8 June 2026. He also stressed the importance of maintaining product quality and consumer protection. Competitive local products, according to him, will increase their use in the domestic market while strengthening the position of domestic business actors. “For sellers, of course, the products must be good, of high quality, so that consumers will return to buy,” he said. Budi said collaboration between the government and digital platforms is needed to expand market access for domestic products. Business actors, at the same time, need to maintain quality and adapt products to market needs. “So actually our task is to find markets. You make the products, and we together with Shopee find the markets,” said Budi.
