Trade Minister Unveils Three Key Programmes to Boost Indonesia’s Trade Performance
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Trade Minister Budi Santoso said his ministry has three main programmes to improve Indonesia’s trade performance, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita agenda. They are the Domestic Market Protection programme, Export Market Expansion, and From Local to Global.
“In addition to these three programmes, there is also Pilihan Busan, curated by our team. We showcase the selected products at the Trade Ministry’s offices, including my room, so visiting guests can see them,” Budi said at the CNBC Indonesia Awards 2026: Best Consumer on Thursday (29 October 2026).
To protect the domestic market, the Trade Ministry is continuing to increase promotion and strengthen the competitiveness of national products so they can fill the market and become consumers’ first choice.
The export market expansion programme will be advanced through trade agreement negotiations, efforts to address trade barriers with partner countries, automation of Certificates of Origin (SKA), and trade promotion.
Budi said Indonesia currently has 25 trade agreements with various countries, while 13 are under negotiation. The third programme, From Local to Global, covers four clusters: UMKM Berani Inovasi, Siap Adaptasi Ekspor (UMKM BISA Ekspor); Desa BISA Ekspor; SME Partnerships; and Campuspreneur.
“From Local to Global includes the UMKM BISA Ekspor programme. We facilitate SMEs’ access to global markets, working with trade attachés in 33 countries, and also help them find buyers through business matching,” he said.
Budi also voiced strong support for Campuspreneur. The programme aims to increase Indonesia’s entrepreneurship ratio by providing support for student business development, including product marketing and export assistance, as well as developing SMEs with university partners. It is intended to help create young entrepreneurs and increase employment opportunities in Indonesia.
At least 25 universities have taken part in Campuspreneur.
“We hope they will start businesses while still at university and be able to create jobs by the time they graduate,” Budi said.
