Trade Minister to Convene E-commerce Platforms and Sellers Tomorrow
JAKARTA — The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) will convene e-commerce platform managers and sellers tomorrow, Tuesday (26 May 2026).
Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, known as Busan, stated that the government will seek commitments from all parties to safeguard the e-commerce trading ecosystem. E-commerce has recently drawn scrutiny due to high platform service fees.
“We need a collective commitment to resolve this,” Busan said when met at the Kemendag office in Jakarta on Monday (25 May 2026).
The government is committed to protecting all three parties through current policy frameworks. “Sellers, platforms, and consumers must all be protected,” Busan stressed.
Kemendag is currently drafting a revision to Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) No. 31 of 2023 on Electronic System Trade (PMSE). The regulation now requires one more harmonisation round. “Harmonisation is done multiple times,” Busan said.
Previously, Busan emphasised that the PMSE revision aims to protect the e-commerce ecosystem. The draft requires platforms to be transparent in setting admin fees and other charges for sellers. “Platforms must be transparent in imposing fees, admin charges, or any other costs,” Budi stated at Palmerah Market in West Jakarta on Wednesday (13 May 2026).
Additionally, the draft mandates protection mechanisms, including complaint services governed by service level agreements (SLAs). Disputes between sellers, platforms, and consumers must be resolved transparently. “All parties must be equal. Sellers and platforms must have equal rights and obligations, and consumers must also be protected,” Busan stressed.
