Trade Minister states Indonesia-Malaysia discuss barriers to agricultural product market access

The governments of Indonesia and Malaysia have discussed several issues regarding market access and trade facilitation, specifically for agricultural and food products, during the 4th Ministerial-level meeting of the Indonesia-Malaysia Joint Trade and Investment Committee (JTIC), held at the Ministry of Trade office in Jakarta on Thursday.

The Indonesian Minister of Trade, Budi Santoso, stated that both nations are committed to finding solutions to various problems that hinder bilateral trade.

“Our discussions regarding market access and trade facilitation, including for agricultural and food products, aim to resolve outstanding issues and facilitate bilateral trade,” said Budi.

According to Budi, these market access discussions are part of the efforts by Indonesia and Malaysia to strengthen trade relations while ensuring that bilateral cooperation provides tangible benefits to both countries.

In addition to discussing agricultural and food products, the meeting also resulted in a commitment to strengthen trade and investment cooperation through various relevant bilateral mechanisms. Both nations are also committed to increasing investment cooperation and encouraging the creation of a conducive investment climate.

In the field of trade, Indonesia and Malaysia are also continuing cooperation in several other sectors of mutual interest, including e-commerce, agriculture, halal issues, and standardisation.

Budi expressed confidence that the outcomes of the 4th JTIC meeting could further advance Indonesia-Malaysia trade and investment relations and deepen economic cooperation between the two nations.

“We are confident that these results will further advance our bilateral trade and investment relations and deepen the economic cooperation between our two countries,” said Budi.
